Knitting the Baby Hat

So I decided to knit a baby hat for a friend that had just given birth to a little girl… and it seems to have turned into an addiction (the hat, not the baby… ‘tho I haven’t seen her yet so it’s still a possibility).

Anyway – I bought a skein of Bernat Baby Jacquards in the Cherry Berry colorway (it’s self striping and the non-knitters in my life were absolutely fascinated with the resulting color pattern).

I knitted the hat pattern that came with the skein, scared to death the whole time that it was going to turn into some monstrously complex thing that was going to eat my brain and have I mentioned my phobia of little needles? But I soldiered on with those little size 6′s (that I had to go back to the evil big box store to get later that day, once I figured out that in my huge stash of needles… there were no 6′s) – and lo, an adorable little hat was completed on Thanksgiving morning.

The hat was so adorable, and I had so much yarn left that when my mother requested another one for one of her friends, I said ‘Sure thing!’. So I made another one.

And then I thought… I wonder what this would like in an adult size. So I broke out the $8 a ball Sulka 60% Merino/20% Alpaca/20% Silk  from Mirasol in the Snow White colorway. I got over halfway through before I ran out (WAH!) so I’ll have to take another trip to the Not-So-Local-Yarn-Store before I can finish. But here’s a sneak peek:

So I was stuck on that project… when my eyes fell on the remaining half-skein of the Bernat Baby Jacquard… so another baby hat is in the works! It’s halfway done as well and it looks like there will be enough yarn still for a 4th one!

So let me reiterate… everybody’s getting hats for Christmas. :P Get your pattern and color requests in now!

[...] finished the adult version of the Bernat Ruffled Baby Hat – you can find the baby version here. Not too happy with it but it does have promise.  The shaping just needs some tweaking I think [...]
